Times
What time do gates open?
Typically our gates open 1.5 hours before the first race, however for feature and festival fixtures, we may open earlier. We always recommend that you check our what’s on fixture page before you visit to check for the most up-to-date timings, as our race times are subject to change.
What time is the last race and when will the racecourse close?
Our races take place at different times and they can also change at the last minute, so we recommend that you check your specific fixture on our What’s On page.
Our racecourse and bars and food outlets close shortly after the last race.
For events which feature music after racing such as our Live After Racing nights and themed events, the live act will perform for between an hour and 90 minutes after the last race and then the racecourse will close shortly after the performance.
We recommend checking our What’s On fixture page for the date you’re attending for the most up-to-date timings.

As a seaside and family-friendly racecourse we are fairly relaxed when it comes to dress code so would suggest wearing something you feel comfortable in, although we do discourage wearing beachwear, sportswear and ripped jeans. If you have booked one of our hospitality or restaurant packages there may be a more formal dress code so it is always best to check out our enclosure and hospitality dress codes, which can be viewed here.

Can I bring a chair?
Chairs can be brought into the racecourse, however this is at the discretion of the safety officer on the day and if the crowd size allows.

Where can I stay overnight?
There are lots of fantastic hotels, holiday cottages and camping and caravan sites in Great Yarmouth and the nearby towns of Hemsby and Scratby. Visit our Where to Stay page or the Visit Norfolk website for more information.
Does the weather affect the racing?
As our racecourse is a turf track, the amount of rainfall impacts the ‘Going’ and how ‘hard’ or ‘soft’ the ground is. Different horses will favour different conditions so these reports determine when, where and if a horse should run.
The health and safety of all participants and horses is always our top priority. If the racing surface is deemed unraceable, for example due to waterlogging, a fixture will be abandoned. If this happens, ticket holders will be alerted and we will announce this on our website so there is no need to call us. Full or partial refunds will be automatically provided according to our refund policy which is available in our terms and conditions of entry.
