JOCKEY JAMIE SPENCER HOPING TO BUILD ON SUCCESS AT YARMOUTH

Jamie Spencer is hoping to build on his success at Great Yarmouth Racecourse when he returns to the seaside track later this month for The Eastern Festival, which takes place from Tuesday 18 September – Thursday 20 September.

Spencer is the top performing current jockey at the racecourse with 136 career wins from 661 rides, and is the top jockey there this year, following 13 wins from 34 rides (a strike rate of 34%).

If Jamie secures the top jockey title at Yarmouth this season, he will join Kieren Fallon as the only jockeys to have achieved this four times – after previously winning the title in 2001, 2007 and 2016.

On his incredible record at the course, Jamie Spencer, said: “I always enjoy riding at Yarmouth, it is definitely up there with one of my favourite racecourses in the UK. I am looking forward to the Eastern Festival, which I’m sure will be three exciting days of racing, and hopefully I can experience more success at Yarmouth.”

Back in August, Spencer landed a remarkable 282/1 five-timer at Yarmouth with victories on Terri Rules, Red Bunting, Encryption, Choco Box and Human Nature.

In the same month, the course also marked his 2,069th career win aboard Late Change, propelling him into the top 20 most successful flat jockeys in the UK of all time – joining Frankie Dettori, Ryan Moore and Joe Fanning as the only current jockeys within the illustrious list.

Alongside Spencer, former Epsom Derby winning trainer, Michael Bell, for whom Jamie regularly rides, also has a strong affiliation with the racecourse - enjoying 7 wins from 21 runs this year (a strike rate of 33%) – making him the joint-top performing trainer there this season. Yarmouth is also Bell’s best performing track since he began training in 1989 – with 94 victories from 654 runs.

Bell’s Pretty Pollyanna, who has gone on to win the prestigious Duchess of Cambridge Stakes and the Darley Prix Morny this year, won her first race of the season at Yarmouth back in June.

The Great Yarmouth Eastern Festival features three thrilling days of racing, with the opening day on Tuesday 18th September, the feature £50,000 EBF John Musker Fillies Stakes on Wednesday 19th September, and culminating in a Ladies Day on Thursday 20th September.
